Fresh Roast announces the production of the New Fresh Roast SR 300 Coffee Roaster and the SR 500 Coffee Roaster

The Fresh Roast SR 300 coffee roaster is a larger version of the Plus 8. It will roast twice the capacity of the Plus 8  (4 scoops, 120 gm) with a digital time display. The maximum time to set the control is 9.9 minutes however with the great added features at any point during the roast sequence you can add 6 seconds every time you tap the button. Time can also be subtracted using the same method. The timer can be overridden by tapping the “Cool” button, the roaster will go into the “Cool” mode for 3 minutes.

The Fresh Roast SR 500 coffee roaster has the same capacity (4 scoops, 120 gm) and features of the SR 300 - plus three temperature settings that can be adjusted any time during the roasting process:

High temp. = 490 degrees
Medium temp. = 455 degrees
Low temp. = 390 degrees

A Fan Speed Control has been added to the SR 500 that allows the finest tuning of the roast. The Fan Speed Control allows adjustments of + or - 10%. Starting the roast, the beans are at their heaviest, the fan speed can be turned up to keep the beans fluid and give an even roast. As the beans become lighter, the fan speed can be turned down and keep the beans from chipping.

Instructions are clear and simple with these models and allows complete control to the user without trying to figure out the programming.

New to these models are the control panels which face up instead of having to squat down to view the settings and roasting process.

As with the Plus 8 model, the chaff collector sits on top making access to remove chaff trouble-free. And true to tradition, viewing of the coffee as it is roasting is part of the fun with complete view ability. Clean up with this model is easy.

Both models are great values for the price.  Their simple design & operation makes them a great choice for both beginners and those looking for simplicity.  Size wise the units are similar to the Plus 8 model measuring approximately 12” tall by 7” wide.

~Latest Update~

Hearthware advises that they won't receive any more units until The Last Quarter of 2010
We'll update this information as we hear more from them.

The I-Roast 2 has the same features as I-Roast, PLUS the added upgrade features below:

The original i-Roast was a major improvement in home coffee roasting technology, but the iRoast-2 takes home coffee roasting to a whole new level.  If you are looking for more sophisticated roaster with larger capacity, the latest model iRoast-2 from Hearthware may well be your answer.  It can roast one cup (5.3 ounces/150 grams) of green coffee in one cycle.

Features:

10 custom programmable roast profiles can be stored in memory

5 stage roast cycle

Patented temperature control to give you consistent personalized roasting performance

2 Preset Automatic Roasting Curves for lighter and darker roasts

Glass Roasting chamber allows clear visibility, during every stage of the roast

Redesigned Double Filtration Chaff collection that also disassembles for easy cleaning

Digital Countdown Time

Internal thermometer

Improved thermoflector

Any roasting of coffee produces at least some smoke.  The iRoast-2 comes with an attachment that will allow you to attach a 4" aluminum dryer hose to vent the smoke if you wish.  You can also roast under your vent-a-hood without the attachment.  It also includes a measuring cup, cleaning brush and instructions.

The iRoast-2 uses hot air to roast the beans (fluid bed roaster). This differentiates this style of roaster from the convection type, often called a "drum" roaster.  The hot air not only roasts the beans but agitates them to insure more even roasting.  The air also carries away the "chaff" that forms when the silverskin flakes off the beans during the roasting process.  The redesigned iRoast-2 has a very efficient chaff collector.

The iRoast-2 comes with two factory preset roasting profiles that work very well if you don't want to use the custom programming feature. You can also set up to 10 custom profiles to insure your beans are roasted to your personal preference.  This ability to program and store profiles allows you to choose some fairly sophisticated options, and to achieve a roast that maximizes the flavor, body, aroma and acidity for different coffee varieties.  You may interrupt any of the cycles at the touch of a button, as well as add time if necessary.

Coffee Storehouse is pleased to carry the Behmor Coffee Roaster.

Rated as the best new product by SCAA in 2007 this coffee roaster give more of what home coffee roasting connoisseurs have been asking for at a great price.

The preset roasting times - A, B, C, or D on the panel combined with your selected roasting curve (P-1 through P-5) will give you a wide range of results, from a Half City roast through a Italian roast.

Anytime during the roasting process you can easily add or subtract time or simply end the roasting process by pressing the 'cool' button.

This is a well built large heavy duty unit with a metal casing and stainless steel front.  It also includes a smoke reduction system that reduces the amount of smoke that is associated with larger batches of roasted coffee.  This doesn't fully eliminate smoke but definitely lowers the emissions.

Things To Note
This is large 1 pound capacity roaster, however our experience is that the model roast best between 10 - 12 oz. per batch as it may not to reach the second crack (pop) when adding the full pound, however if your preference is for a Full City roast or less, then by all means, add the full pound.

The cooling process is a bit takes longer due to the larger roasting capacity however to speed up the cool down process you can open the front door when in the cooling cycle.  Be aware that by doing so more smoke will be emitted.

As with any home coffee roaster, never leave the roaster while roasting is in progress. Adult supervision is recommended at all times while roaster is in use.

The Gene Café Roaster

They have combined the features of a drum and a fluid bed roaster which coffee aficionados will love in this new innovative design.

The Gene Roaster allows more flexibility to control the roast while having a greater visual advantage with its tempered glass drum design. The roaster’s drum has an innovative vortex twisting motion that allows the beans to tumble evenly while hot air circulates around them. Large capacity chamber allow roasting batches as large as 300grams to as small as 50grams.

Since the key to producing the perfect roast is having more control over the variables.  Two knobs on the front of the unit can be adjusted for time and temperature. A manual cool button allows you to stop the roasting process at any point you feel the coffee is ready.

While some of the better roasting machines allow you to program your roast; once the roasting process begins, the flexibility to make changes are limited, if any.  The Gene Café Roaster has added this feature so that you can make unlimited changes in the temperature and/or time settings before and during the roast. (Since not all beans roast the same- this is a great feature.  We love that!)

The cool cycle takes place in the drum.  When the eternal temps reach 140 F, the drum stops and alerts the roaster with an auditable beep.

The unit’s operation is impressively quiet.  It may take a few roasts to discern from the pops in the roasting stages from the beans hitting the glass as they tumble.

In addition to the illustrated owner’s manual, a 1 year warranty is included with the roaster.  Additional parts include an attachable chaff collector which sits on the side, a chamber support which holds the chamber when not in use, and cup to measure for beans.

Hottop Coffee Roaster
Basic Programmable
KN-8828B
(Shipped from Manufacturer)

The KN-8828B model has the following features:

Large cooling tray with forced air cooling

Large glass viewing window

Extremely quiet to easily monitor the cracking of the coffee beans

Heavy duty components and high quality electronics for dependable operation

Stainless steel roasting drum and outer surface

Replaceable filter to help remove particulate matter and lessen smoke production

Color LCD display

Not sensitive to line voltage, thus a variac is not needed

Built-in temperature safety features (when temp reaches 415 Fahrenheit user must press any key to continue roasting if darker roast is desired otherwise beans will be ejected and machine will shut off)

15 - 17 minutes for 250 grams (9oz. or 1/2lb) batch

Target time, target temperature, fan speed, or heater power can be adjusted during roast

Adjusted profile can be saved and played back

The newly designed "KN-8828B" now gives the user complete manual control of all parameters while still allowing those new to coffee roasting easy the ability to successfully roast from the very beginning Simply plug the roaster in and press the "POWER/START" button three times and the roasting process begins. Add the beans when the machine "beeps" and you can either allow it to roast and then eject the beans automatically or you can manually end the roast at any time.

As the user advances in their knowledge of coffee roasting, the various parameters of the roast can be easily controlled without complicated programming. While the roast progresses the user can use the simple keypad to change various functions as seen here

1 - START/POWER - The largest button at the top of the control panel is for both “POWER” and “START.” Only one of these two choices will be illuminated in the LCD display at any given time so the button is used for this dual function.
2 - EJECT - This is always available during a roast. Use it to immediately stop the roasting process and send the beans into the cooling tray.
3 - SELECT - The circular arrow is used to cycle through the various parameters that can be adjusted. Adjustable parameters are Target Time, Target Temperature, Fan Speed and Heating Element Power.
4 & 5 - CHEVRON ARROWS - The Up and Down arrows are used to change each of the four adjustable parameters explained below. If at any time a parameter is at its extreme (highest or lowest possible setting) that arrow will not be available.

The control panel uses an easy-to-read LCD display to give the user all the information needed to successfully complete a roast. By glancing at the four simple display areas the current process is easily understood:

SAVING ROAST PARAMETERS

Having to remember a roast with all those possible changes would be nearly impossible, so to allow you to repeat a roast there are three memory areas. At the end of the roast which you have modified using any of the above changes you are presented with "Stor" in the display. At that time you can easily save the completed roast into non-volatile memory, including all the changes you have made. Up to three roasts can be saved in this manner. A stored roasting profile can be easily selected at the start of a roast, and that Profile can be changed during the roast as described above, and then saved again at the end of the process.

To achieve this we have redesigned the entire control board as well as the main circuit board. The KN-8828B will be available as a complete roaster, but Hottop has gone to great lengths in the design of this new model to be sure that current owners of a Hottop coffee roaster will be able to upgrade their roasters to the "B" model by replacing the control panel and the main board, both of which will are available for purchase as an upgrade "kit." Complete instructions for the replacement procedure are available in PDF format HERE on the Hottop USA website.

Among various safety features is the fact that the chaff tray needs to be removed from the machine for emptying or the next roast cannot begin, even if the machine has been unplugged.

Another safety feature helps keep the user from ruining a roast. When bean temperature reaches 414 F, the machine will signal the user by beeping for thirty seconds. This warns the user that the beans are approaching the point where they may be burnt or even ignite. During this thirty-second warning period the user MUST press the "Enter" button. If the button is not pressed the machine will automatically eject the beans into the cooling tray. Additionally, n roast can progress past 431 degrees. At that point the beans will be ejected regardless of reaming time or Target Temperature.

Hottop Coffee Roaster
Programmable
KN-8828P
(Shipped from Manufacturer)

The KN-8828P is a fully programmable roaster. With its roots firmly established in the dependability and solid design of the original KN-8828 analog-display, preprogrammed model, and with its predecessor the KN-8828D digital-display model, the new "KN-8828P Programmable" will allow the user to modify the roast program to suit their needs, satisfy their personal taste, or best match their preferred coffee origin and brewing method with the following features:

Large cooling tray with forced air cooling

Large glass viewing window

Extremely quiet to easily monitor the cracking of the coffee beans

Heavy duty components and high quality electronics for dependable operation

Stainless steel roasting drum and outer surface

Replaceable filter to help remove particulate matter and lessen smoke production

Adjusted profile can be saved and played back

To achieve this we have redesigned the entire control board as well as the main circuit board. The KN-8828P is available as a complete roaster, but Hottop has gone to great lengths in the design of this new model to be sure that current owners of a Hottop coffee roaster will be able to upgrade their roasters to the "P" model by replacing the control panel and the main board, both of which are available as an upgrade "kit" for purchase. Complete instructions for the replacement procedure are available in PDF format HERE. (pdf format)

.

The control panel has been totally redesigned, now sporting an advanced LCD display which serves as the programming interface as well as giving the user full telemetry readout during the roasting process. For those just learning about roasting coffee there is an "Auto" mode that roasts the coffee much like the previous models have, but the KN-8828P also adds up to ten roasting profiles. The first is pre-programmed by the factory. The remaining 9 profiles can be programmed by the user and saved for use at a future time in the non-volatile memory.

Program "0" is set from the factory and cannot be changed, but the consumer can program up to nine of their own profiles offering the ability to create coffee just the way they like it as never before. Each of the nine programs can have up to 8 roasting segments, and each of those segments can be individually programmed for time and temperature as well as fan speed. Additionally, the user can modify any single portion of a program they have already created without having to re-enter the entire profile or segment.

With the ability to create that many custom roasting profiles, the KN-8828P can be set up to cover just about any roasting need. Use program 1 for espresso, program 2 for the Colombian that Mom loves so much, program 3 for that dark roast for Dad, and six more to make the machine work just the way you want. It is also easy to keep track of the various profiles because the user can add their own three-character, alpha-numeric designation.

To further assist the user, animations have been added to the control panel. In the lower left-hand corner (4 in the display image shown above), various animations remind the user of tasks that need to be completed. Prompts include emptying the chaff tray adding beans, or eject and cool-down mode is in progress. When an alarm goes off a quick glance at the display lets the user know what to do.

Among various safety features is the fact that the chaff tray needs to be removed from the machine for emptying or the next roast cannot begin, even if the machine has been unplugged.

Besides the animations on the message center, the lighting on the LCD screen changes color depending on which mode or function is in use to alert the user.

This Graph created from data gathered during an actual roast compares the temperature reported by the KN-8828P's LCD display to the actual bean temperature taken with a separate probe inserted into the roasting chamber.

[NOTE: This is an enhanced image of a prototype panel taken during pre-production testing showing the factory "Program 0" in operation. Production model will be more clear and easier to read.]

1 - Countdown timer to show total amount of time left in the current roasting process.
2 - Current roasting chamber temperature.
3 - Fan state and relative speed (fan is off in this picture)
4 - Current state (Roasting, Plus Time, Cooling, etc.).
5 - Eight programmable roasting segments will be available to be programmed. These bars show the portion of the programmed temperature which has been achieved for the programmed temperature for that segment.
6 - In the same way the vertical bar shows temperature progress, these four squares show how the programmed time for the current segment is progressing. Each one indicates 25% of the time for that particular segment. Here you see that this segment is at about 50% of the programmed time.
7 - This time display shows the amount of time left for the active segment.
8 - This bar represents the user's programmed temperature for that segment.
