The Tegucigalpa, Honduras Orphanage
A land of heights and depths, with a population of 5,300,000 squeezed into a
space the size of Tennessee, Honduras is the second poorest nation in the
western hemisphere. Running water, electricity and transportation are
nonexistent outside of the major cities. Life expectancy is short and infant
mortality is high. Most Hondurans earn only $2 a day.
If one wishes to address the needs of the poor,
one could make no better choice than Honduras, or in this case, the children
(orphans) of Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Orphans of this city have little or no
access to health care and are in the truest sense, street children. Even
where government clinics exist, pharmaceuticals are rare or unattainable.
Christian Churches in the U.S. have responded by
sending teams of volunteer health professionals and others to these ravaged
areas of Honduras. The teams bring a measure and quality of care unknown to
these areas along with the eternal message of hope in knowing their savior,
Jesus Christ.
One such children's ministry is know as the
Street
Children's Home, an arm of World Gospel Outreach. Through this
ministry, many homeless and forgotten street children receive a second chance of
life with a family who loves and cares for them, their health, their education,
and especially their eternal destiny.
